Return To Run Program

This lifestyle program is designed for the non runner who is interested in making positive change to their health and getting started with a running program.

The purpose of the program is to identify your goals from running whether they be lifestyle / health related or competitive in any nature.

Once your goals are established (be it from running around at your children’s sport through to running 10km or a half marathon) an assessment of your risk factors, strengths and weaknesses is undertaken and a remedial program is developed for you prior to returning to run.

The next step is to begin a graduated running program including drills to ensure you have sound technique and aren’t going to injure yourself.

What support do I receive through this?

You have an initial assessment and two follow up reviews staged through the program.  We are always available for questions via email or telephone throughout the program.  At any time you may book an extra review with us if you have any concerns during the program.

What is the process?

Initial Assessment

Interview to establish your goals from the program and any relevant injury history.

A run specific muscle imbalance assessment is undertaken.  This helps us identify any areas of weakness, poor control or lack of motion that may put you at risk.

An assessment of your running gait.

From these assessments a prehabilitation program is designed for you to address any issues identified.

You will then usually spend between three and six weeks undertaking your prehabilitation program prior to your next review.

Please bring shorts and if you have them the running shoes you intend using (we can provide you with advice on appropriate running shoes if required).

1st Follow-up Assessment

Your biomechanics will be reassessed to review your progress with the prehabilitation exercises.  Progressions of these exercises will be established for you to continue with in stage two of the program.

From your initial goals and previous running history a return to run program will be designed for you.  This will take into account your available time and ultimate  running goals.

You will be taught running drills to include in your sessions that will help your running form and injury prevention.

Your running segment of the Return to Run Program will be 12 weeks in duration with a follow-up assessment at the six week mark to assess progress and modify your program / exercises as required.

2nd Follow-up Assessment

A second review of your prehabilitation exercise progress is done and your exercises modified if required.

Your running style is again reviewed as is running progress.

Your running program will be modified as required.
