New staff member joins Shakespeare Physiotherapy Pure Black Racing Pure Black Racing is the first truly professional road cycling team to be started in NZ. With principal sponsor Avanti their goal is to be racing in Europe for 2015 and at arguably the pinnacle of the sport, the tour de France. The team raced for the first time at the Tour of Southland and had a strong debut with Mike Northey winning the stage from Tuatapere to Winton and Roman Van Uden taking the overall sprint classification. Dene has taken on the medical role with the team and has helped in the development of recovery protocols, muscle imbalance assessments and prehabilitation programs. The recognition that the off the bike training is a critical part of cycling success is part of the strategy to have both the professional riders and juniors injury free and performing at the highest level. Dene is in the last 7 weeks of preparation for the ITU Long Course World Triathlon Championships in Perth. The race is in downtown Perth on October 25th. Recent publicity has left some people wondering whether they can still receive ACC funded Physiotherapy treatment for their injuries. You can still see a Physiotherapist without a referral and will continue to be able to do so in the future. ACC continues to provide a subsidy for Physiotherapy treatment after an accident. However, after 15 November we will be required to charge injured patients a fee because ACC will be paying a lower subsidy which is not intended to cover the full costs of treatment. As we continue to commit to the accreditation process we will have a different funding arrangement with ACC that will further subsidise the cost of treatment above standard rates. This will allow us to contain the cost of treatment for patients. The level of the ACC co-payment has not yet been set.
